Mannington Commercial Launches the Googie Carpet Collection

Mannington Commercial is introducing the Googie Collection, a dynamic four style carpet offering available in broadloom or modular format. Designed with patterns that capture the optimism of space-age themed Googie architecture, the collection is a versatile flooring solution for K-12 and higher education environments.

Emerging after World War II, Googie architecture reflected an era of excitement centered on the emerging influence of technology and space exploration. The Googie style expresses the bold, forward-looking optimism of the time reflected in buildings with sleek aesthetics reminiscent of a spaceship. The design embodies a sense of dramatic movement, with swooping lines, cantilevered surfaces and sharp angles. Everyday structures like gas stations and diners – even attractions like Seattle’s iconic Space Needle and Disneyland’s Tomorrowland theme park – mirrored this progressive design.

The Googie Collection translates the optimism of the Googie aesthetic to flooring in four styles specifically designed to suit a multitude of education spaces. Versatile enough to fit a K-12 public school or private university, all styles are available as 24” x 24” modular carpet and 12’6” broadloom carpet.

Telejector is a large-scale, energizing pattern of strong angles and thick, criss-crossing diagonal bands on an organic background.
Skyway is a medium-scale pattern of a linear grid enmeshed with thin diagonal bands, creating a subtle sense of movement.
Multiplexer is a medium-scale pattern of thin lines in an organic, modern crosshatch pattern.
Phenomena is a quiet, textural coordinate with small-scale gridding.

The collection offers versatile warm palettes of gray, tan/brown and
navy/charcoal. The colorways allow designers to control the deployment of color, an important feature for education environments. Each palette has four to five coordinating colorways that include neutrals, a neutral with color, and a bolder color with color. Using this three-step approach to integrating color, designers can add a pop of coordinating color as desired while maintaining a more neutral look for the majority of the space. With a 3.5 TARR for exceptional durability, the Googie Collection is made with premium Antron Legacy type 6,6 nylon, which allows the carpet to last up to 75 percent longer. The modular format features Mannington Commercial’s Infinity 2 Modular backing for superior performance, and the broadloom format uses Integra HP high-performance backing, which creates an impermeable moisture barrier.

The Googie Collection may contribute to multiple LEED credits. Antron Legacy fiber is a third-party certified Environmentally Preferable Product. Infinity 2 Modular backing and Integra HP backing contain recycled content and are NSF/ASI 140 Certified Gold. Googie features a Product-Specific Type III EPD and a published HPD, and the collection is CRI Green Label Plus Certified to support indoor air quality. The collection carries a limited lifetime wear and backing warranty, a limited 15-year XGUARD Stain Resistant Warranty, and a limited 15-year ColorSafe Bleach Resistant Warranty.
