Mannington Commercial, a leader in flooring for commercial interiors, has been recognized for the third year in a row by the Nightingale Awards. The awards are a partnership between the Center for Health Design, Healthcare Design magazine, and Contract magazine, recognize contribution to the healthcare built environment through product design and innovation that contributes to healing.
This year, Mannington brought home the Gold award, for its Entwined Collection of modular and broadloom carpet. Entwined is low maintenance, highly durable carpet that is designed for acute care environments. Under the leadership of Design Director Roby Isaac, Mannington’s in-house team were inspired by the desire to connect people and interior environments with nature.
“Mannington continues to invest heavily in healthcare as a category, in both carpet and hard surface,” said Isaac. “With Entwined, we wanted to explore new directions in biophilic design. Rather than simply hinting at natural materials and mimicry, we began by abstracting images from nature.”
Heirloom grasses, bamboo, and other naturally occurring materials were interpreted as inspirational textures. The end result is three large scale, irregular patterns—Ramie, Husk, and Moso—that create a sense of organic movement, broken linearity, and warmth, while also emphasizing the human element in the design process.
The carpet is finished with Mannington’s stain-defying XGuard® and bleach-resistant ColorSafe®. It is available on UltraBac®RE, Integra®HP, and Infinity®Modular backings, each of which is certified as an Environmentally Preferable Product. Infinity®Modular contains pre-consumer recycled content and is certified NSF/ANSI-140 Gold. Integra®HP is high performance integrated broadloom backing system with pre-consumer recycled content, certified NSF/ANSI-140 Gold. UltraBac®RE broadloom backing contains a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled content by total product weight and is certified NSF/ANSI-140 Platinum.
Because the company has long experience in manufacturing both soft and hard surface flooring, Entwined (like other Mannington Commercial carpets) can be chemically welded to LVT or resilient sheet, to create seamless, bacteria-resistant transitions. Entwined patterns are available in 24” x 24” tile and 12’ 6” broadloom.
