Material Future
Program Summary
This CEU is accredited for 0.1 IDCEC CEU/HSW and 1 AIA LU/HSW. This course investigates how macrotrends can be discovered through microtrends in material, color, pattern, finish, surface innovation. Participants will explore how these subtle shifts in material language influence experience, narrative, and the emotional impact of space. Through examples drawn from Art, Interiors, Fashion, Architecture, Design, this course recognizes the global design movement of trends through a cultural and material intelligence.
The course highlights how designers can interpret trends as early indicators of larger experiential directions. The session will introduce future-focused methods of working with both familiar and unconventional materials, encouraging designers to rethink assumptions about what materials can communicate. The goal is to inspire designers to select materials / color / finish / pattern with intention, clarity, and a deeper understanding of how meaning is shaped through curation.
